Memorial Day weekend, and still A LOT of snow on Mt Hood

This picture is taken from the edge of Highway 26 near the gate that is presently CLOSED to drive into Trillium Lake. Behind me is a huge snow bank that is keeping the road from being opened. You can see that Mt Hood is still totally white from the snow. Nothing has started to melt as it usually has.

Typically, all the lakes on Mt Hood are open for the Memorial Day weekend. However this year, Trillium, Clear, Clackamas, Frog, Little Crater, and Harriet are all still snowed in. Some people even drove up without checking the snow levels and were very disappointed when they arrived to find out that their campgrounds were not open yet.

The Rhododendrons have finally bloomed!

By popular request, I have been keeping my eyes on the rhododendrons around Gresham, and am happy to announce that the rhodys behind my house have finally started to bloom. I have seen blooming rhodys around town lately, but wanted to wait until my intensly magenta ones opened up.

Lolo Pass Waterfalls

Todays Watery Wednesday submission is an old picture I took about 5 years ago. There are a set of waterfalls up off Lolo Pass Road, which goes all the way from the small town of ZigZag (where I grew up) to Hood River in the Columbia River Gorge. Off the side of the road is a creek, and if you follow the creek up the hill a ways, there is a large, hidden waterfall. You can walk behind the waterfall, and that is where this picture was taken. This is the view of the falls from behind. You can see the sun and trees through the falling water. I did post a picture of these falls in the winter earlier this year.

Melt snow, melt!!!

There is still so much snow up on Mt Hood that the campgrounds will not be opening in time for Memorial Day camping. AHHHH!!! Everyone do me a favor and send "Snow Melt" vibes our way! This picture was taken near Memaloose Lake, up near Estacada. The other lakes are all snowed in, so I couldnt take a new pic of them :(
