Steel Bridge

Skywatch Friday again!!! I took this picture while riding the Sternwheeler Rose down the Willamette River at dusk. The bridge is the Steel Bridge in Portland.

Before and After - Roslyn Lake

The lake was a part of the The Bull Run Hydroelectric Project, a Portland General Electric development in the Sandy River basin. Originally built between 1908 and 1912, The project used a system of canals, tunnels, wood box flumes and diversion dams to feed a remote storage reservoir and power house. The entire project has now been removed due to rising environmental costs. Marmot Dam was removed in fall 2007, and PGE removed the Little Sandy Dam in the summer of 2008. After that, Roslyn Lake was left to dry up, and this is what it looks like today.

Little Crater Lake

Yesterday we took a drive up Mt Hood. One of the places we stopped at was Little Crater Lake. This was my first time visiting the little lake. It is only about 100 yards across, but is 45 ft deep. The water is the most intense blue you have ever seen, and the remains of trees that have fallen into the lake can be seen at the bottom. They look almost like a shipwreck down there. Very pretty.
