Foggy Mornings Bring Sunny Afternoons

I rarely go black and white on my photos. But this one screamed for the desaturation. Driving to work yesterday the fog was so thick. I pass this field every day and always thought, "on the next foggy day, I am stopping". Luckily, I actually had my camera with me and was able to get the tree line fading away. By afternoon, the fog had burned off and it was actually sunny in areas for the first time in what seems like weeks. Today is also a blue sky day! Lucky us :)

On a side note, tomorrow is the 114th Civil War between my beloved Oregon State Beavers and the #2 BCS ranked team in the nation, the Oregon Ducks. GO BEAVERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanksgiving Eve

It is quite hard to motivate myself to go outside and take any pictures. Normally on Wednesdays, I post an outdoor pic or watery pic. But the water outside is frozen due to the cold weather, and I am not venturing outside for the same reason! So I decided that this picture would be appropriate. I took it on the drive to my Dad's house in Prineville last year. This is literally in the parking lot of a rest area in Warm Springs, OR. The autumn colors and dawn fog were so beautiful. We wont be taking this route to my Dads this year because of the heavy snowfall. The drive over Mt Hood is too treacherous. So we will be going a different route east. Hopefully I can spot something picturesque going that way to post next week!

First Frost of the Year

It has been a cold one here in the Portland Metro area! On Saturday there was a good coat of frost on everything by 10pm. Yesterday we had our first snowfall too, although nothing came close to sticking near my home. The higher elevations have had accumulation though. It is threatening to snow again today/tonight. It makes for an interesting Thanksgiving week, thats for sure!

Autumn Hood and the First Snow

The clouds covered Mt Hood and it began to snow up there. This picture was taken just a few days ago. Since the snow has fallen, we have been lucky enough to have had clear skies and 65-70 degree weather the past three days, and the view of the white, newly snowed on mountain is awesome. This was taken from Jonsrud Viewpoint in Sandy, OR at dusk. I love the changing leaves in the valley below!

RIP Tree

Today people are coming to take down the 50+ year old tree that lives in my front yard. The city contacted my landlord and told her she needed to take down the tree because its roots are disrupting the sidewalk that goes in front of our house. Its rather sad. In its place the landlord will plant a new tree. :(

Waterfall at Japanese Gardens

Another shot from the beautiful Portland Japanese Gardens. Yesterday, I posted a photo from one of the most famous views in the gardens. This is one of the first areas you come across when you walk in. In the summer you can see koi swimming in the waters. This day, it was just floating leaves :)

Portland Japanese Gardens

Up in the West Hills of Portland not far from downtown is the Portland Japanese Gardens. On a day like this past Sunday, there are hundreds of visitors. The weather was mild, and the leaves are in the best part of their color change.

The end of summer gardening

While fall has some perks (the smells and colors mostly), it signals the end of my favorite time of year and to one of my favorite activities, gardening. Ive slowly been putting my summer garden to bed and preping for the long winter ahead.

Blue Autumn Skies

Did ya miss me?! I didn't post a picture yesterday. It was one of those days where I could not find a free second :(

Todays pic is taking one last, longing look at the autumn blue skies. Since I took this picture a week ago, the clouds have rolled in. Everything is very dark and gloomy. No real rain yet, but that will change, today probably.

Blue Heron

We were sitting at our favorite lake fishing this past weekend, and all of a sudden this large blue heron flew right in front of us. We were at the end of the lake where sometimes fishermen park their rowboats, and it landed right there and just sat. Perfect! I grabbed up my camera and took advantage of the opportunity. Usually the blue herons at that lake are a bit more elusive, and you can only see them from a great distance. We lucked out!

Little Zig Zag River

Below the Little Zig Zag Falls, the Little Zig Zag River sticks to its name, winding through the dense forest on its way to join up with larger rivers downstream.
Today is my 400th blog post!!! Thanks to everyone for stopping by and commenting ... it inspires me to get out there with my camera and continue my blogging!!!

Busy Bee

The sun was out and the bees were buzzing this weekend. I came across this active little guy and had to try to get a shot. I love the pollen caught in the fuzz on his back :)

Lush River Edges

This is currently my desktop image. It is such a perfect example of how gorgeous and green the river edges are.

On a personal note, Happy Birthday to my husband. I am so lucky to have such a fun-loving, sweet and supportive person in my life :)

Happy Duckling

When we go up to our favorite lake on Mt Hood (Trillium Lake), there are always a lot of mother ducks with their babies. Its kinda fun to see them grow. We go up often enough that we are able to really follow how big they are all getting. The last time we went about 2 weeks ago, these older ducklings still had all their fuzz, but were getting almost big enough to start growing feathers. The one in the middle by his mom was very excited to see us, and wiggled his little body and wings for me at just the right moment!

Reflections of a Water Lily

Just in time for the July City Daily Photo Theme... I took this yesterday. A water lily flower that has not all the way bloomed.

Central Oregon Landscape

This weekend, I am going to east to see my Dad for Fathers Day. Last time I went out to central Oregon, we came across this picture perfect scene.

UPDATE: I have been selected to be Skywatch Fridays guest host this week! Thanks to everyone that stops by :)

I just love dragonflies. They are so delicate, and their wings are so detailed. At Trillium Lake, they were flying around everywhere. There were yellow ones, like this guy. But I also spotted green, brown, and blue ones. Beautiful!!!

Wild Mountain Flower

Not sure what this little flower is called. But its an early bloomer up on Mt Hood. When we went hiking a few weekends ago, it was one of only 2 flowers I spotted, the other being trillium. And it was the only one around too!!! The blue color was so bold, only softened a little by the very light yellow stamens.

Forest Creek

This picture is a very common site when hiking the trails around Mt Hood. The little creeks are all flowing at full force right now from all the snow melt.

I'm back!

As I mentioned last week, I did go on my Mt Hood hike on Sunday for Mothers Day and do have an assortment of photos to post. However, I was out sick for Monday and Tuesday, so this is my first opportunity to blog!
We adventured a few miles up the East Fork Trail off the Hood River. This first picture is a small waterfall that we heard out in the woods off the trail. We hiked back in a hundred feet or so and found this little, pretty waterfall. Someone had placed the red rock at the bottom of the falling water.

Ladybug out early!

Its a bit early for ladybugs to be out. Regardless, I spotted this little guy on a rhododendron leaf this past weekend. Upon furter inspection, I saw he was balancing a raindrop on his back. Bet he kinda regrets coming out in this wet weather ;)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone. I am reposting this picture I took of the north side of Trillium Lake looking towards Mt Hood as my favorite picture of 2009. Not only is it representative of this blog, but it is also the location where I was married, which was the most important event of my past 12 months. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2010!
