As I promised in yesterdays post, here is a photo of a lava cast. 6000 years ago, Newberry Mountain outside Bend, OR erupted, and the lava flow enveloped the existing trees. Once the lava cooled and the trees died away, it left these empty trunk holes. There were tons of them, some standing up like this one, and others laying down in "tunnels" on the ground. Quite a sight. The colors of the minerals that the lava left were interesting too.

Lava Cast Forest Continued
