Stellar Jay Feather

As I have mentioned in previous blog posts, I grew up basically on the side of Mt Hood in a very small village called Welches. Along the south side of our community runs the Salmon River. I spent many days of my childhood at the Salmon River. The name of our street was Salmon River Rd. It was a very short bike ride or run to go dip your feet in its chilly waters.

On Saturday, my husband and I spent the entire day up on the Salmon River. He fished, and I took photos. This week I will post some of my favorites from the day.

Todays photo is of a Stellar Jay feather. I remember the jays driving me crazy when I was a kid with their loud screeching "caws" first thing in the morning. While the background unfortunatly is quite overexposed, the feather itself shows its ridges and details, plus its bold blue and black patterns.

I covet that feather. I love the stellar jays. I grew up on the east coast w/ blue jays which aren't near as blue or as large as the stellars.

Wonderful details & color in that feather. We don't have stellar jays where I live, but they are beautiful birds.

Love the feather, the colors are amazing! We just missed a trip to Mt. Hood because of my health issues, hope to go next year and ski the glacier. :)

Haven't seen a stellar jay-- lots of bluejays where I grew up in Tx though-- I've always loved their blue-- I like how the background makes the blue pop!
