View from Beacon Rock

As promised on Mondays posting, this is the view from the top viewpoint of Beacon Rock. Taken at dusk, the last of the days sun shines down the Columbia River Gorge.

Longing for the blue skies and vacation days

Its only been a month since my husband and I took a vacation to the Oregon coast. But I am already ready for another chunk of time off . Is there ever an amount vacation that will truly quench the thirst for time away from the monotony of working ? I dont think so ;) This was taken in downtown Newport, OR.

March Hail and Snowfall

The poor flowers in the Portland Metro area are in shock! They were tricked into thinking that we have arrived at an early spring. However, yesterday afternoon the temperatures dropped 20 degrees and overnight it hailed and snowed in places. Not much accumulation, mind you, but considering it was 65 a few days ago, this is unexpected. When I woke up this morning to go to work, it was actively hailing/snowing at my house still. I went out and got this shot before heading out.

Daring Walkway

Beacon Rock is a formation on the Washington side of the Columbia River, a few miles west of Stevenson, Wa. The rock towers 848 ft into the air. You can hike a trail up the rock, consisting mainly of these switchbacking bridges. Its not a hard hike, but I cant help but think of the daring workers that originally built the structures so that generations could climb to the top and enjoy the view! I plan on posting a picture of that view this Friday for Skywatch Friday -- come back then to check it out!
