First day of Autumn Harvest Moon!

Did you guys get out to see the "Super Harvest Moon" on Wednesday this week? I did! It was the first day of Autumn in the northern hemisphere and perfectly coincided with a full moon!

Viewing it from my backyard was somewhat of an optical illusion. The clouds were thick, but we were lucky enough to have openings between them. The clouds moved VERY quickly across the sky. If you stared long enough, it almost looked as though the moon was moving that fast and the clouds were stationary. Very cool.

Stretch

This goofy squirrel made itself a good place to rest up on the crossbeam of my grandparents porch. He stretched out and layed there for a good 10 minutes, enjoying the shade.

Tamanawas Falls

My mom and I hiked up to Tamanawas Falls on the eastern side of Mt Hood a few weekends ago. Lemme tell ya, it was not an easy task to get any pictures of this waterfall. I was totally unable to get a slow shutter exposure because of how bright it was that day. Getting much closer than this vantage point proved impossible for photographing too because of the huge amount of mist that the falls puts off, which you can see to the right of the falls where the sun hits it. The water would just collect on your lens (but it was also a very welcome cool "shower" after hiking in that warm weather). Next time I will go on a cloudy day to avoid the overexposure that this photo suffers from and hope for a better shot. This one will do for now :)

Japanese Gardens

I'm posting this picture of the Portland Japanese Gardens today for a couple of reasons. Number one, as sort of a wish. I really would like to go there this autumn and do some photography of the changing leaves. Its such a gorgeous place year round, but with the splashes of red, orange and yellow, I can imagine it would be even more so. Secondly, this little footbridge makes me think we need these all over the Portland Metro area for the next 6 months or so, during the rainy season. The ground becomes a standing lake in many areas, and these elevated walkways would be so helpful!

No Play Today

The rain has begun. Saturday we went to the Oregon State vs Louisville game in Corvallis. It sprinkled pretty steadily the whole time. Nothing too bad though. We were prepared. But on the drive home, the sky opened up and it POURED. Sunday was a bit weird. It did a lot of pouring, then sunbreaks, then pouring, then sunbreaks... I did manage to get out and do a bit of fall gardening during the breaks though :)
