Bald Mountain Viewpoint

On Sunday, I hiked up Bald Mountain. This short hike is kind of difficult because it goes straight up the back side of the ridge from Timberline Trail, through the woods. It is very worth it, because at the end it opens up on the face of Bald Mountain to this breathtaking view of the west side of Mt. Hood. At the bottom of the snowline you can see Muddy Fork, which is the beginning of the Sandy River. The water melts from two points off the Sandy Glacier and winds its way around Yocum Ridge. It's hard to believe the little trickle of water that you can see ends up merging into a big river.

  4. What a fabulous photo. What an incredible view. It makes me dizzy to look down at the two streams merging, but it is wonderful. Yes, I know what small beginnings mighty rivers often have, but it never ceases to amaze me.
