Timing is everything, they say. While I was concentrating on capturing the moment that the sun disappeared behind the very lowest point of the north slopes of Mt Hood, I didn't notice that from my perspective at Cloud Cap Inn, I also was capturing the first signs of smoke from a wildfire that broke out, as seen in the lower right corner of this photograph. The next day I saw the story in the news. Now it is four days later, and the Dollar Lake Fire is at 1,660 acres and threatening the Inn, which I wrote about yesterday. This is the second time in 3 years that the Inn has been threatened by wildfire.

Beautiful colours in your view of the sky, sorry to hear about the large fires, hope the rain comes along to put them out soon
I love it when the clouds are limned with gold like this!! What a coincidence about the fire!!
Great picture of a gorgeous sky!
What a beautiful photo!! Sorry to hear about the fire though.
Gorgeous skies and a terrific capture for the day. The fires are a real nightmare this year -- well, any year actually, but this year they have been everywhere it seems! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy!

I just hate wildfires, grass fires, forest fires, but I can sure see why you were distracted by the stunning sunset and didn't see the smoke right away.

The best pix are those which contain something unexpected!
Enjoy your weekend!!
oh so perfectly timed...gorgeous!
What a horror story! We are in for a scorching summer this year and since our last major fire was in 1983, a mass of combustible material has accumulated. All one can do is be prepared and sit tight.
Great sunset enhanced by the smoke.
Beautiful scene on the sky.
Regards!
i love the colors..:)

This is a great photo. I'm sorry to hear of the fire. This is also happening near to where my mother lives up country. It is a hotbed for fires every summer, pun intended. I hope that both fires are quenched quickly.
This year with the cool wet summer we have been spared some of the worst fires, but not all of them. They cause so much damage. - Margy
Beautiful sunset!
I'm sorry the Inn is being threatened by fire. The shot is fabulous and I ooooooh and awwwwww at such glorious sights.
Beautiful! You sure take great photos. Keep up the good work! Warmly Brenda
