Winter Hood

On a clear day, Mt Hood practically glows. Right now, it doesnt appear that there is any bare rock showing through the thick snow base. In the Sandy River valley below, you can see the remains of the heavy snow they had over a few days last week. Off to the north side, the smoke from someones fireplace - much needed, since when I was out taking this photo, my hands were FREEZING!

Look What the Rainfall Has Done!

I dont often post a straight quick shutter photo of moving water. I prefer the smooth, feathery look of a slow shutter photograph. However, in this case, I wanted to be sure to get the violent splashes of the water as it rushes over the rocks. The rivers are all very swollen right now due to the excessive rainfall we have been getting lately.

PS - Facebook users: I have entered a photo I took in a contest, and would REALLY appreciate your vote. You can find my submission here (http://bit.ly/vote4hoodphoto) and THANK YOU!

Green Gorge just past Gresham

The area I live in is more like a small collection of communities. Gresham, Troutdale and Fairview mark the beginning of the Columbia River Gorge when heading east from Portland up I-84. 5 miles up the gorge you come to the exit that leads to the small community of Corbett, and on the outskirts of Corbett sits this beautiful view. Crown Point, to me, is one of my favorite places to visit, since I think its one the most gorge-ous (you see what I did there HAHA) sights to see if you come to visit our area. This photo was taken last spring, and the hills the Vista House sits on will soon be that green and leafy again!

Lupine Growth

My lupine are starting to grow! You see a lot of lupine in the Mt Hood National Forest, growing wild. Here is an old photo I took of the beautiful flower in the summer. In the bare garden boxes in my back yard, my lupine and a columbine are showing signs of growth in this still cold weather.
