Thistle Growth
I had not ever seen this before. On the side of this thistle that faced the late afternoon sun was new leafy growth. I assumed it was the seeds that had not escaped during the dry season sprouting in the thistle head after the rains we have been having. There were a lot of these thistles around, and each of them had this. I can't imagine these baby plants surviving much longer. The cold season is upon us.

How determined it is! Lovely.
It's the little thistle that could!
Great capture!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Nice sharp photo. Great capture!
Well that's an interesting thistle, which is absolutely unknown in our surroundings. Thanks for making us acquainted with it.

That's pretty cool! :)
Fascinating. Nature has new surprises every day. I'm glad you got a photo of this. I never heard of that happening before either.
this is quite interesting.
it's fascinating that green leaves would sprout from where the purple petals have been. beautiful shot.
TERRIFIC!

Nice Find
I've never seen a thistle like that before. Great find.
Ordinary Words...I have noticed a few budded trees....they seem to survive the winter though♫
Great photo♥
What a lovely surprise!
Oh that is so beautiful, but i wonder why the seeds didn't disperse when the pods are still dry! Maybe it is always wet there, sorry for those seeds they will just die.
That's a cool one!
Great capture, Sarah! Always a little sad when you know the baby-growths can't survive.
That is very interesting. I see these seed heads frequently, but have never seen anything like this!
Very interesting shot. - Margy
Nor I, but what a gem!! And, what a great macro shot!
Thats an intreating picture - I wonder if it the seeds within the thistle head starting to germinate? Thats a guess, but I've not seen anything like that either.

That is beautiful, and I have only the naked thistle, not with the greens on it.
Thistle...who knew? What a great capture this is.

oh, that's really cool! nice share.
Wow, awesome!
I love your picture of the Thistle. Yesterday I visited the Ridgefield National Wildlife refuge in Washington, not too far from Vancouver. I too saw these Thistle with the plants. Took some great photos of them also. I had never seen anything like them before too. Have you found out anymore about them? I would love to know. Where did you take your pic? What time of year?
thanks so much Terri
