Up Close and Personal with a Trillium

I have always thought the center of a trillium resembled a three legged octopus, with its swirling tentacles. I also liked how the petals of this wet trillium were almost transparent in places.

Under Crown Point Falls

I do not know if the little waterfall that flows directly under the Vista House on Crown Point has a name, but it is very picturesque. It seems to come out of nowhere and drops along the face of the Columbia River Gorge, eventually draining into Mirror Lake below.

From Above

I have been posting a lot of macro shots in the past few days, but I could not resist another. This small leaf was laying in the middle of the path I walked through the woods this weekend. I like the swirl of the trees above reflected in the water trapped on it's surface.

More Mushrooms

Ack I love mushrooms! Whenever I go out with my camera on a rainy day, it is all about checking the edges of the trail for mushrooms to capture. Surprisingly this past weekend, there were not a lot. But I did spot this cluster, and I love the detail of the gills underneath that conveniently turned themselves upward to be photographed.

Unraveling

This time of year, the sword ferns all sprout their new growth and it slowly unravels into a new frond.
