Heavenly Portland Oregon

Yesterday I just had that feeling. If you are a photographer, you know the one. You must go seek out a photo opportunity. I headed to Mount Tabor and set up my tripod and waited. The clouds were dark and grey,  but there were a few sun breaks on my drive towards Portland on I-84 from Wood Village, so I was hoping for the best. All of a sudden, the clouds broke and these awesome beams shown down on the Rose City. My photographers itch got scratched.

A Trip to Silver Falls

Last week we took a drive south to Silver Falls State Park. We ended up going on a weekday, which I highly recommend. We arrived right around noon and there were only about 4 cars in the often times full parking lot. The sun was still behind the trees that line the top of the canyon in which 177 ft tall South Falls drops into. From the vantage point that I took this photo, you can continue down and behind the falls to the other side of the canyon. From there you take a footbridge back across South Fork Silver Creek below the falls and hike back up the trail to where you started. The entire loop is just short of a mile with a pretty steep elevation change for such a short distance. I am proud to say my future avid hiker son, who is now not quite 22 months old, did almost the entire walk himself!

BRRRRR! I should not complain, because a lot of places have it a lot worse than us. But our wind chill factor (at least here at the mouth of the gorge where I live) is causing our temperatures to be deceptively chilly, despite the blue skies we had enjoyed last week. There are not many leaves left covering the ground because the wind has blown them all away. But these were caught under a tree and were covered in frozen morning dew, creating a crunchy, crusted cover.

Moss Spore Forest

This is not an easy photo to take! I have tried multiple times lately to take a photo of pretty moss such as this, but the miniature forest of moss spores are very close together and even with my macro lens, quite hard to figure out what to focus on. I think this attempt turned out pretty nice though.
