Years End 2014

The past few years of posting to Hood Photo Blog have been such a great experience. I feel as though I have learned a lot and have grown into the photographer I am today, all while realizing that I have so much more to accomplish in regards to my photography goals.

Each new year I like to close out the previous year by posting my favorites that were taken in the past 12 months. Deciding which photos best represent my growth in the past year is a challenge in itself, but a fun one. I love looking back and remembering the photos I made and the experiences I had in capturing them. The best part is when I see marked improvement throughout the year, which makes me feel like all the efforts are worthwhile.

This year, I will be doing the same thing, with a bit of a twist. I have decided to also enter some of my favorite 2014 photos into the Friends of the Outdoor School Photo of the Year Contest. Please let me know which photo you enjoy the most in the comments, as it will help me in deciding which photos to submit! And as always, thank you everyone for your ongoing support. It makes me proud to have people that like my photography, and encourages me to strive to continue to improve my game.

And my personal favorite from 2014, Lewis River Reflections. I loved the lighting, the way the trees were just starting to change, the perfect glassy reflection, and the barely moving current taken with a slow shutter.

Riverside Crane

When I visited the Sandy River last week to witness the swell of the floods, I happened upon this gorgeous crane huddled down while standing in the flooded water. He was very content sitting there while I snapped away. About 2 hours later when I left the area I noticed he had only moved about 10 feet away. Must be a great spot!

Moss Spore Water Droplet

It was totally necessary to get outside yesterday, despite the pretty consistent rain up on the mountain where I went on a very wet walk in the woods. If you paid attention to the small details, you could find a lot of beauty in the rain soaked surroundings. Although it was so very rainy, the weather later today is supposed to be so much worse in comparison, with temperatures dropping to the teens and wind gusts in the 60 mph zone here near the Columbia River Gorge. There is no way I go out in that yuckiness!
