Four Horseman Hotel at the Blue Ridge Mine

As you meander past Highway 26 to the east of Prineville, Oregon you happen upon the old Four Horseman Hotel and Blue Ridge Mine. Rumor has it that the hotel had a mercantile down on the lowest level, and upstairs, bunks for the miners and more notably, a supposed brothel.

Up in the hills behind the hotel are the remains of the mine, which most notably produced mercury. The mine and hotel apparently were founded in or around 1930. The mine itself ran into the late 50's.

  1. One can imagine a resident ghost or two, with all that history.

  2. I was just reading a book that included some history about mines and how so many lost money and how dangerous they were and now we know how toxic mercury is.... makes a lovely photo...Michelle

  3. Only 20 years in production - I wonder why. Fabulous Foto!

  9. Firstly my apologies for a late comment, i have been far to busy repairing my blog after a moval from one host to another... and taking care of other things that needed to be taken care of since my husband and i have health issues at the same time.

Sometimes i wish i could step into a timemachine, and go way back, just to see (and photograph ofcourse) how it was like back than....
