Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Last weekend I took an overnight trip to the Oregon Coast. One of my very favorite places to visit when I am there is Yaquina Head. This "Outstanding Natural Area" boasts gorgeous views, pebble beaches, hiking paths, tidepools, and most important, a historic lighthouse. Standing down on Cobble Beach, overlooking the ocean waves rushing over the tide pools, you can see Yaquina Head Lighthouse standing proud against the cloudy Oregon coast sky.

End of the Day at the Oregon Coast

The past three times I have visited the Oregon Coast, the weather has not been cooperative. It has been rainy and stormy much of the time. But true Oregonians just work around such conditions and do their best to get out between rain showers, or just brave them anyway.

While I do love me a good coastal storm, to me, the disappointing part of storms at the coast is the lack of a sunset! I crave a good sunset, but this trip was no different than the past two. The clouds did part along the horizon just enough to let through a tiny bit of orange, and I was able to get this photo of the last moments of daylight.

Spouting Horn at Cook's Chasm

I took a mini-vacation to the Oregon Coast and visited one of Oregon's true gems, Cape Perpetua. When I visited, it was pouring rain and I got truly soaked. But I did manage to make my way down to witness Spouting Horn at high tide. This photo was taken about 45 minutes before the peak of high tide, and even then the waves were getting high enough to splash over the rock walls of Cook's Chasm where I was standing. Each time a huge wave would hit the chasm, an eruption of sound would occur, and water would shoot high in the air out of the blowhole. It was so awesome to witness in the stormy conditions!
