The Rusty Car at Dalles Mountain Ranch

The Dalles Mountain Ranch is one of those locations that has exploded in popularity in the past two years or so. I went there a year or two ago with my brother and we did not see another soul. This year when I visited it was really busy. I had to wait my turn to take a photo of the infamous "rusted car", which lives on a hillside amongst the balsamroot and lupine. The challenge was trying to get a composition that has not been done a bunch of times by the other hoards of photographers that have visited. I hope I accomplished my goal.

Bee on Balsamroot

The balsamroot is in full bloom in the Columbia River Gorge, and the bees are loving it! Balsamroot, AKA "Oregon Sunflower", is abundant this time of year in the drier areas of the eastern end of the gorge near The Dalles, and the hillsides on both the Oregon and Washington side of the river have distinct yellow splashes of color across them from the fields full of blooms.
